Why We Lean Egalitarian
We believe the gospel of Jesus Christ restores the full partnership of women and men in the life and mission of God’s kingdom.
From the beginning, Scripture teaches that both women and men were created in the image of God and entrusted with the shared calling to steward creation.
Genesis 1:26–27
Through the work of Christ, believers are adopted into God’s family and share fully in the inheritance promised to God’s children. The New Testament teaches that all who belong to Christ are given the status of sons of God through faith. In the ancient world, “sonship” was the legal status that carried inheritance rights. By using this language for all believers, Scripture teaches that women as well as men stand as full heirs in God’s household.
Galatians 3:26–29; Romans 8:16–17
Because believers are heirs with Christ, women and men alike participate in the life, gifts, and mission of the church. The Holy Spirit distributes spiritual gifts for ministry without distinction based on gender, status, or ethnicity.
Acts 2:17–18; 1 Corinthians 12:7
Jesus also redefined leadership among His followers. In the kingdom of God, authority is not exercised through domination but through humble service. Christ taught that those who lead among His people must do so as servants who seek the flourishing of others.
Matthew 20:25–28
For these reasons, we affirm that women and men serve together as co-laborers in the mission of Christ. No class of Christian possesses greater spiritual authority by virtue of gender, ethnicity, or social standing. All believers stand equally under the lordship of Jesus and are called to build up the body of Christ with the gifts God has given them.
Galatians 3:28
The church flourishes when every member of the body is free to serve faithfully according to the calling of God.
